Dating the french

To you, things might be more casual and you view him as just one of the guys you’re dating, but watch out.

It would probably confuse him if he saw you with someone else a few days later.

Americans might find the French guy’s call frequency charming or maybe a tad overbearing if you’re not that into him. It might be uncomfortable but it’s a lot better than assuming something or letting him assume something which leaves one or both of you hurt and confused.

But at least you don’t have to wonder who is supposed to call who next. Please note: The comments section has really exploded here and while I do my best to reply to your comments, I won’t be able to get to them all.

While I did see him one afternoon sitting at a café in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, I simply did not see a future with us (he was also dating Carla Bruni’s sister at the time, which have played a role in our fate.) I learned not to box myself into an idea of what I expected of Paris and had fun meeting different kinds of guys.

Or will you be The Girl Who Stole the Eiffel Tower and find that love has been sitting right under your nose like Audrey Hepburn in While my Parisian love stories have been far from a string of scenes written for romantic comedies, I have come out of these six years with an understanding of how dating in Paris works, and perhaps a little bit more about myself. Before my arrival I was convinced that I was going to be swept off my feet by my French heartthrob, indie actor Louis Garrel, and that all French men looked like him.

And if you say yes the first time he asks, he might be surprised you actually said yes. If he likes you, it means he’s going to keep in touch. There are no calling rules or games here when dating a French guy.

French men are painfully honest when they feel things have fizzled out and speaking from experience; it really hurts but it can be incredibly humbling. Because if he really liked it, he would have put a ring on it and not repeatedly tell you that it was at his aunt’s house.

Tom is the only French guy I’ve ever dated, so I had it easy when it came to the whole French dating game. Our relationship developed from genuine friendship and wasn’t rushed or forced.

but French guys really do love declaring this early on in a relationship.

Unlike in the States where men can be a little stingy with their love, French men just go with it if they’re feeling it.
